We remember them
For many years, The Compassionate Friends Victoria has invited our families to join together in the Herald Sun’s annual Honour Roll, publicly remembering the children, siblings and grandchildren whose lives ended too soon.
It has been a special tradition – a simple but powerful reminder that our loved ones are remembered, that they mattered, and that behind every name is a family who continues to carry their love.
Over recent years, however, we have seen the number of families taking part in the newspaper Honour Roll steadily decline. As fewer people buy and read printed newspapers, we felt it was time to find a new way to continue this important tradition – one that keeps the Honour Roll within our own TCFV community.
So, from this year, we are bringing the TCFV Annual Honour Roll into the pages of Compassionate Connections.
We would love to fill these pages with the names and faces of those we remember. Alongside each name, families will have the opportunity to include a small photograph, helping us to remember not just a name and a date, but the person they were and the place they continue to hold in our hearts.
The Honour Roll will appear in our Summer edition, published before Christmas, creating a moment for us to pause during what can be a particularly difficult time of year and remember those who are missing from our celebrations.
We have also been able to make the cost of including a loved one in this year’s Honour Roll more affordable. Each entry will be $25, compared with the $55 cost of a two-line entry in the Herald Sun. While the newspaper placement has always cost TCFV considerably more than the amount families have paid, our new Honour Roll allows us to offer this opportunity at a lower cost while keeping the focus where it belongs – on remembering our loved ones together.
We remember them. We always will.
Please provide the name, age and date of death of your loved one plus a photo.
TWO LINES ONLY per entry is available (24 characters per line, including spaces) and each entry will include child’s or sibling’s name, age and date of death.
The notices will appear as:
SMITH Mary Jane 19 years, 31.8.89
Cost: $25.00 per entry – Due to available space in the magazine the Honour Roll is open to 100 members only. Closing date is Monday 2nd November 2026.
