A free six-session online bereavement support group for LGBTIQA+ and/or BIPOC families and kinship networks who have experienced the loss of a child, partner, sibling or chosen family member.
Register here for the upcoming six session program.
This group is designed for people who identify as LGBTIQA+ and/or BIPOC who have experienced the death of a child, partner, sibling or significant family member.
We recognise that grief can be shaped by experiences of identity, culture, community and belonging, and this space is intended to provide connection with others who may share or understand those experiences.
LGBTIQA+: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, Intersex, Queer and other diverse gender and sexuality identities.
BIPOC: Black, Indigenous and People of Colour.
This peer-led series has been created by The Queer as Death Collective and is facilitated by Hini Hanara and Chloe Coelho, in collaboration with The Compassionate Friends Victoria.
This space is for people who have experienced the death of a child, partner, sibling, or significant family member – including chosen family relationships.
We recognise that family structures are diverse, and that grief is shaped by the depth of connection, not only legal or biological ties. In many queer and culturally diverse communities, kinship networks extend beyond traditional definitions. This group honours those bonds and recognises the unique ways identity, culture and community can shape grief and mourning.
You are welcome to participate in whatever way feels most comfortable for you – speaking, writing, drawing, using the chat, or simply listening.
Across six sessions, participants will have the opportunity to build connection, share reflections on coping, and explore how grief intersects with culture, identity and chosen family. Together, we will also identify resources, rituals and practical tools that may support healing and ongoing connection.
