Originating in Mexico, Día de los Muertos is a ritual dating back 3000 years. It is a two-day festival for family and friends to come together to honour and celebrate the lives of their loved ones who have passed away. Their belief is that at midnight on October 31, the spirits of loved ones can come down to enjoy the festivities that are prepared especially for them.
One of the biggest traditions of the festival is creating an offering of the favourite foods of their loved ones. The key purpose of this custom is a reminder of good memories and to show their loved ones that they are not forgotten.
This is a warm and friendly social gathering for all bereaved parents, siblings and grandparents, where we can come together to remember, honour and celebrate the lives of those we love. We invite you to bring a photo (not in a frame) of your loved one to add to our special banners, creating a beautiful shared tribute to those we carry in our hearts.
Please bring a plate of your loved one’s favourite food to share. We’ll provide the drinks, including some refreshing sangria.
We hope you’ll join us for an evening of connection, remembering, stories and good food.
