SUMMARY:Dia de los Muertos 2024
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row disable_element=”yes”][vc_column][vc_column_text]Originating in Mexico\, Día de los Muertos is a ritual dating back 3000 years. It is a two-day festival for family and friends to come together to honour and celebrate the lives of their loved ones who have passed away. Their belief is that at midnight on October 31\, the spirits of loved ones can come down to enjoy the festivities that are prepared especially for them. \nOne of the biggest traditions of the festival is creating an offering of the favourite foods of their loved ones. The key purpose of this custom is a reminder of good memories and to show their loved ones that they are not forgotten. \nThis social evening at the centre is a chance for us to come together and share stories about our loved ones\, the stories that made us laugh\, the things that drove us crazy and everything in between. \nIt is a chance to celebrate the things that made each of them special\, with people who truly understand the joy in being able to talk about our children\, our siblings\, and our grandchildren. \nBring a photo that can be pinned up on a garland (not in a frame). \nBring a plate of food to share that is the one thing you think of when you think of your child’s\, sibling’s or grandchild’s favourite food. At previous year’s events we have had quiche\, chips\, donuts\, pies\, cakes and even a roast! \nAll family and friends welcome![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) \nWhen: Friday 25 October 2024 \nTime: 7.00pm – 10.00pm \nAt: TCFV Centre (229 Canterbury Road Canterbury) \nCost: Donations gratefully accepted \nRSVP: Wed 23 Oct 2024 \nOriginating in Mexico\, Día de los Muertos is a ritual dating back 3000 years. SUMMARY:Winter Solstice Gathering 2023
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \n  \n\nThroughout history\, the Winter Solstice has been recognised that although the year’s shortest day heralds the onset of winter\, it also promises the gradual return of the sun after a prolonged period of darkness. \nIn light of this (no pun intended)\, we are opening our doors and inviting our bereaved families and the community to join us for an evening of music and readings\, hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows\, mulled wine and rituals to welcome the return of the light. \nThis is a relaxed\, simple get-together so come share the warmth of the fire with friends or make new friends. SUMMARY:Canterbury Book Club
DESCRIPTION:  \n[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] \nThe Book Club is a social group and an opportunity to discuss any book that we’ve read\, some books explore grief and bereavement but it’s not necessary that they do. \nThe Book Club does also offer the opportunity to explore the grief\, spirituality and self-help books that are available here in the TCFV Library. \nUnlike other book groups\, we don’t need to read the same book. Everyone will be able to read their own choice of book and report back to the club. Feel welcome to bring along a book that you have found personally beneficial in your grief journey\, or just come along and find out what others have been reading. \nIMPORTANT NOTE: The Book Club is different from TCFV support group meetings\, focussing instead on literature\, rather than “where we are at in our grief”.  If you are new to TCFV and the experience  of discussing your grief\, we highly recommend you first attend group meetings for a period of time\, as the Book Club is a discussion group on what we have been reading.\n[/vc_column_text][vc_tta_accordion color=”violet” c_icon=”” active_section=”999″ collapsible_all=”true”][vc_tta_section i_icon_fontawesome=”fa fa-pencil” add_icon=”true” title=”Reserve your spot by clicking here” tab_id=”1476938965394-7c218087-6a1c”]Registration for this event are closed. SUMMARY:Dia de los Muertos
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Originating in Mexico\, Día de los Muertos is a ritual dating back 3000 years. \nIt is a chance to celebrate the things that made each of them special\, with people who truly understand the joy in being able to talk about our children\, our brothers and sisters and our grandchildren. \nAll family and friends welcome![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Please register your attendance by completing the form below:[/vc_column_text]This registration form has expired. SUMMARY:Canterbury Book Club
DESCRIPTION:  \n[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] The Book Club is an opportunity to discuss books that we’ve read which explore grief and bereavement. We will also look at books that examine subjects such as self-care and spirituality through the lens of grief. Furthermore\, the Book Club offers the opportunity to explore what’s available at the TCFV Library. \nUnlike other book groups\, we don’t need to read the same book. Everyone will be able to read their own choice of book and report back to the club. Feel welcome to bring along a book that you have found personally beneficial in your grief journey\, or just come along and find out what others have been reading. \nIMPORTANT NOTE: The Book Club is different from TCFV support group meetings\, focussing instead on grief-related literature\, rather than “where we are at in our grief”. SUMMARY:Dimensions of Grief: Exploring Spirituality
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Please register to attend these bi-monthly discussion forums which provide a platform for TCFV members to discuss Spirituality\, and other Transpersonal themes and experiences\, in an openly validating and supportive way. The forums focus on continuing bonds and connection\, rather than specifically on loss. \nSpirituality\, as stated\, is defined as very broadly based\, ‘non-denominational’\, grounded in personal and lived experience and based within the explicit theoretical frameworks of Bereavement theory and practice as well as Psychology/Transpersonal Psychology. \nTranspersonal Psychology has been defined as: “…the field of psychology which integrates psychological concepts\, theories\, and methods with the subject matter and practices of the spiritual disciplines. It uses both quantitative and qualitative methods; its central concepts are non-duality\, self-transcendence\, and optimal human development and mental health.” (Davis\, John V. (2003).
