| With
two major events to organise, and a Media
Launch the dedicated team of Defence personnel
commenced engaging high calibre sponsors.
In 2010 58 sponsors all came on board to support
the Defence Fundraising efforts for the Lake
Attack events.
This year the events kicked off with the Media
Launch on 28th July at the Melbourne Town
Hall. Sue Stanley the Defence Lake Attack
Ambassador was presented with 'the golden
running shoe' and DHL presented their sponsorship
cheque to Air Vice Marshal Staib.
Lake Attack 2010 was held on Sunday 29th August
at Albert Park Lake. This run/walk event drew
interest from across the community. The day
was full of highlights.
The energetic participation of over 2000 entrants
were all vying for the winners podium, the
main feature of the day.
Defence Lake
Attack offered many event activities for participants
and the community to enjoy. The attractions
included, a fly over of Airforce planes, and
many Army Interactive Displays.
This year for
the first time there were many more children's
activities including an Animal Farm, Jumping
Castle and Trampolines. The kids loved them
all-we even enticed the adults to pat some
of the gorgeous baby animals.
The culmination
of the events was the formal Dinner &
Charity auction held at Victoria Barracks
on 2nd October.
Hosted by Air
Vice Marshal Margaret Staib AM, CSC; she welcomed
guests to the historic Windsor Hotel for a
night of fine dining, wining and entertainment.
As guest speaker
she gave an inspiring speech on various aspects
of the Australian Defence Force. A buoyant
auction of prizes generated enthusiastic bidding
from around the room.
TCF Vice President, Tony Gee was presented
a cheque for $44,000 from Air Vice Marshal
Staib and Mr Andrew Chappell, CEO Lord Mayors
Charitable Foundation. In total these events
raised $176,000 this result amazed us all
and not least the four charities who are privileged
to receive this money.
